Artist’s Statement
My work is rooted in the intense feelings of anxiety felt when contemplating my own mortality. Existing outside within the green has enabled me to find stillness and calm. I work in the non-refusing landscape where I perform and communicate to the camera. I transform my performative documentation into the darkroom, creating photographs that aim to convey silent expressions of existentialism. I work intuitively and freely. The darkroom is an extension of the conversation between me, Earth and camera, as I find that the performative routine continues throughout. These steps provide me with a moment for meditation. 'Doing' is integral to my practise. I let my body lead the direction. I follow my subconscious for this process, demanding surrender from my active thoughts.
I find joy in the challenge of looking, looking to find the threads that connect my photographs together. Recently touch, movement, and texture are blossoming recurrences throughout my negatives. Quiet, deadly, soft, volatile. Like a fog she lingers in the corners of every room.
